Car started shifting hard and acted like it was slipping
Car: Honda, Prelude, 1997, V-Tec - Back to Fix-It - Honda Prelude Repair Manuals
Q.I bought a Honda Prelude last week, 1997, 177k. It ran great when I test drove it. The the other day it all of a sudden started shifting hard and acted like it was slipping. It shifts fairly smooth in the manual mode versus automatic. Anyone have an idea what I could check? Thanks Lapseal.
I already checked/done: These are the problems.
1. Anti-Loc Brake light is on - previous owner installed new rear brake pads.
2. The engine when cold tries to start and shuts down, then after a couple of tries, ir rumbles, black smoke comes out and then all of a sudden, it like clears itself and starts idling like a clock?
3. It shifts smooth as you start out then after say a 30 mile trip, when you come to a stop,it clunks into first gear and then as you take off it acts like it slipd and then kinda roughtly goes into the next gear? Any ideas? What I should check?
More Info required OK you have a few different issues here. One unfortunately is an internal issue in the transmission and most likely the transmission will need to be replaced. Do you have a check engine light on also? How many miles on the car?
