Hey dkline. sounds like the problem of your clunking is being caused by the CV Joint. Get under your car, if it clunks while turning left, look behind the right tire(and visa versa). there is a rubber boot, if that is torn, then the grease will leak out and let dirt and moisture into the joint. That will cause it to make those noises. If you catch it early enough, then you may be able to replace just the boot, but most likely, you will need a whole new CV Joint and Axle, which can run around $200. I hope that helps.
