Ticking sound in the engine

Car: Acura, Legend, 1994, 3.2L V6 - Back to Fix-It - Acura Legend Repair Manuals

Q.WE HAVE A ACURA LEGEND 1994. ENGINE HAS A SMALL TICKING SOUND LIKE WHEN ON A 350 V-8 U HAVE A INCORRECT ADJUSTED VALVE OR A DEFECTIVE LIFTER. THIS ENGINE I BELIEVE HAS AN OVERHEAD CAM ON EACH HEAD I THINK! DON'T THINK IT HAS LIFTERS. COULD IT BE EXCESIVE GAP (LASH) BETWEEN THE VALVE ROCKERS? OR WHAT CAN IT BE? IT HAS THE 3.2 V-6.

I already checked/done: NOTHING. NOT SURE WHAT IS WRONG. HAVE DOUBTS THAT IT COULD BE EXCESIVE LASH (GAP) ON VALVES.

Answer There are sort of small lifters, that go in the rocker arms, (#17) normally called "hydraulic lash adjusters" (HLA) and it is very possible that one of them is bad.
However, to check it, you have to remove it and with all the labor involved it is normally best to replace it. Then again, it is always best to replace all of them while it's apart.
However they are rather expensive.
Vehicle is equipped with hydraulic lifters. No valve adjustment is possible or necessary.
