My Aztec has been running hot lately
Car: Pontiac, Aztec, 2001 - Back to Fix-It
Q.Our 2001 Pontiac Aztec has been running hot lately - with the warning light comming on, the bell ringing and the needle in the temperature guage pegged to the top. The first time it happened, my wife was on the freeway and immediately pulled over. We had the car towed to the dealership where they couldn''t duplicate the problem and the diagnostic showed no instance of the car running hot. It happened again to me on the freeway, but after waiting about 20 minutes, I started the aztec again and drove the remaining 15 miles home with no problems and the teperature guage at normal. We took it in to the dealership again and had them flush the system, but it ran hot again shortly thereafter. This time, though, right when it started running hot, my wife put the car in neutral and it immediatey cooled off. We have replaced the BCM twice, so it''s possible it''s an electrical problem again, I guess. Any suggestions?
I already checked/done: flushed the system
More Info required Was the engine ever block tested for compression or combustion gases entering the cooling system via a leaking head gasket or warped cylinder head?
Either or both may cause an intermittent over heating condition.
Also, was the system always kept full and bled of all air?
Any external coolant leaks and are the cooling fans operating per design?
