My car losing power and dying while driving.

Q.My mechanic has replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump and fuel replay switch because my car was losing power and dying while driving. I drove it yesterday and four miles into my trip it lost power and died exactly as before. Were the replacement necessary or was the mechanic just guessing and really does not know what is going on. This is getting very expensive - should I look for a new mechanic???

More Info required can you tell me if this feels like the key is been shut off ?
