My '98 A4 gives codes P0304 (cylinder 4 Misfire) and P0441 ..

Q.My '98 A4 gives codes P0304 (cylinder 4 Misfire) and P0441 (evap emiss. sys. small leak/no flow condition). It dies every time I feel it with gas. I have repalced all of the vacuum hoses and the spark plugs. What else should I do?

I already checked/done: I have replaced just about all of the small vacuum hoses,for code P0441. Used Lucas and Sea Foam gas treatment and replaced spark plugs for code P0304.

Answer I have run into a similar issue and on every instance the owner was "topping" the fuel tank after filling up. When the fuel is filled and the pump automatically shuts itself off, it is very important to remove the nozzle without pumping any more fuel. When the tank is "topped" it floods the carbon canister. This component is only designed to absorb vapors. If it is flooded, it floods the vehicle after fill up as it dumps raw fuel into the intake system. Repeated flooding of the canister will deteriorate the carbon and contaminate the system, eventually causing the purge valve to not seal. If this is the case the canister a.. >> login for more
