Acura Legend overheats, despite fixing what seemed the most obvious causes.
Car: Acura, Legend, 1993 - Back to Fix-It - Acura Legend Repair Manuals
Q.My 1993 Acura Legend, with low, low mileage continues to overheat, despite several attempts at fixing what seemed the most obvious causes. Baffled, lately my mechanic has recommended that I replace the radiator assy, water pump assy, intake manifold "chamber" gasket intake manifold gasket (2 pcs), plenum (intake manifold) gasket (1 pc), fast idle valve, temp. sensor, thermo sensor. Does this sound logical?
I already checked/done: Replacing all the hoses, radiator cap, overhauling radiator, water pump, replacing thermostat.
AnswerThe first thing that you want to do is check the cooling system for any exhaust gases.
There is a tester for that, that you can gt from Autozone for about $20.
Block tester available as:
Snap-On GDCT16
Napa BK. 700-1006
If there are any exhaust gases in the cooling system, that will cause more pressure than desired and will probably allow the engine to burn coolant.
If there are, then there would be an internal engine problem, like a head gasket or head. Of course, you will want to make sure that the system is full and the cooling fan(s) are working as well as the pressure cap holding pressure.
