Car: Ford, Focus, 2001, 1.4 Zetec 16V Petrol - Back to Fix-It - Ford Repair Manuals
Q.I need expert help!! Ford Focus 1.4 Zetech 16v Petrol 2001.
Car broke down a few weeks ago which, at first seemed to me that it was a cam belt. However, the cam belt was OK but there was definitely no compression. So head comes off and all inlet valves are bent. Head is sent off for a re-build; all new vales, vale seats re-cut and valves lapped in, head skimmed, compression tested and and vale vacuum tested for any leak.
Head goes back on, car starts and idles OK-ish, but absolutely no acceleration. New coil pack and HT leads fitted. The engine just coughs and splutters as soon as the accelerator is pressed down and air keeps popping back through the inlet manifold.
Timing checked 3-4 times but still no joy. ECU tester says the crank-shaft position sensor is no good, so new one fitted; still no improvement. Checked all electrical wires on the loom, resistance checked TPS, fuel injectors all OK. Still no improvement. Possible ECU failure?? HELP.
More Info required When you set the timing, can you tell me the procedure that you used, including the position of the crank timing pin.
