Q.I have a 93 legend coupe, type II that I love, but recently it acts as if it has an unbalaced or flat right front wheel after it drives for at least 20 minutes at highway speed. But it only happens while engaged and being given gas. If I take my foot off the gas or drop it into neutral, no problem. But as soon as I try to give it gas, it will not accelerate over about 45mph and the thunping is terrible. The speed of the thumping seems to be correlated to the speed of the car, not the engine as it doesn't change speed when I drop it into low. If I pull over & let the car cool for twenty minutes, it's fine again, for twenty minutes of highway driving. It's baffled two garages and one tranmission place. Two of which never drove the car long enough to replicate the problem. Help!!

Answer This is a fairly common problem on this model legend. You have bad inner CV joints on the front axles. The bearings inside the joint ride in grooves and they stay in the same spot most of the time because of this they tend to wear out the groove in one spot. When this happens the axle spins "off center" under a load causing the noise and vibration you are feeling. When you let off the gas they drop back into position and stop vibrating. This usually happens when the axles are hot or under a heavy load like up hill. Change the axles with quality rebuilt parts and your problem will go away.
