A/C causes overheat

Car: Acura, CL, 1999, 2.3     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Acura Repair Manuals

Q.I have a 1999 Acura 2.3cl very good condition with 100k miles. just arrived in southern florida from boston after driving 1600 miles. driving on the highway no problems with AC on. Driving in stop and go traffic with the AC on causes my dashboard heat gauge to exceed half way and turned the heat to 90 before it overheated. The temp went below half way to "norm" The bigger of the 2 radiator cooling fans is on. The smaller of the two is not on even after going over the half way point with the AC on. Thermostat was changed up north. Antifreeze levels in backup container is at the right level. When does the second fan kick on and why is it not turning on to cool the engine?

Answer Hello. The small fan is supposed to come on when the a/c is on, if not this is most likely your overheating issue. If you have a volt meter or test light, I can assist you in troubleshooting this, but usually it's a bad fan motor. I have replaced a lot of them.
