How do I change a fuel pump?

Car: Honda, CRX Si, 1987     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Honda CRX Si Repair Manuals

Q.How do I change a fuel pump in a 1987 Honda CRX Si? A Honda mechanic in the area told me that this was the cause of a problem I am having when I go to shift gears. The engine and RPMs begin to wind down when I shift gears. After pushinbg the clutch pedal in and then releasing it a second time, the gear will grab and the engine will begin to rev again. Any advise wouldf be helpful. THanks.

Hi hsifter.
Thank you for asking your question on CRXSi.Com. I would start with checking fuel pressure and if it not within specs then you should change it along with the fuel filter.
Remove left rear wheel.
Remove pump cover.
Remove bolts securing pump mount and remove mount complete with pump.
Disconnect electrical connectors and fuel lines.
Remove pump clamp.
Remove pump.
Remove fuel line and silencer from pump.
Fit new pump to mount.
Clean sealing surface of flared line and refit.
Refit fuel hose and silencer to front of pump.
Reconnect wiring and refit pump mount.
