DTC Troubleshooting: P1214 (11-2)

DTC P1214 (11-2): IMA Circuit High Voltage


1.Reset the ECM/PCM.

2.Start the engine, then let it idle for more than 5 seconds.

3.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS or a scan tool.

Is DTC P1214 indicated?


YES - Go to 4.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IMA and the ECM/PCM.n


4.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

5.Disconnect the IMA 3P connector.

6.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

7.Measure voltage between IMA 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Go to 9.


NO - Go to 8.

8.Measure voltage between ECM/PCM connector terminals A10 and A20.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM (A10) and the IMA.n


NO - Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM/PCM, replace the original ECM/PCM.n


9.Connect ECM/PCM connector terminal A31 to body ground with a jumper wire.

10.At the wire harness side, check for continuity between IMA 3P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Replace the IMA.n


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM (A31) and the IMA.n
