DTC Troubleshooting: P0335 (4)

DTC P0335: CKP Sensor No Signal


1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

3.Start the engine. If the engine does not start, keep cranking for 10 seconds.

4.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Is DTC P0335 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor and the ECM.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Disconnect the CKP sensor 3P connector.

7.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8.Measure voltage between CKP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 9.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the CKP sensor and the PGM-FI main relay 1, then go to 20.

9.Measure voltage between CKP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Go to 10.


NO - Go to 11.


10.Measure voltage between CKP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 2 and No. 3.

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 18.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 1 (test pin box terminal No. 30) and the CKP sensor, then go to 20.

11.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 10 seconds.

12.Connect the ECM test harness and the test pin box between the ECM and connector.

13.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

14.Measure voltage between test pin box terminal No. 43 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 14 (test pin box terminal No. 43) and the CKP sensor, then go to 20.


NO - Go to 15.


15.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 10 seconds.

16.Disconnect the ECM test harness from the ECM.

17.Check for continuity between test pin box terminals No.43 and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 14 (test pin box terminal No. 43) and the CKP sensor, then go to 20.


NO - Go to 25.


18.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

Replace the CKP sensor.

20.Reconnect all connectors.

21.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

22.Do the ECM RESET in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

23.Do the ETCS learn procedure.

24.Start the engine.

25.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0335 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n


26.Substitute a known-good ECM.

27.Start the engine.

28.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0335 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Replace the original ECM.n
