Fan runs on cold engine
Car: Honda, Accord LX, 1995 - Back to Fix-It - Honda Accord LX Repair Manuals
Q.1995 Honda Accord LX with auto transmission. 4 cylinder engine (not VTEC). Cooling fan runs even when engine is cold (this is the fan on the passenger side of the engine compartment) and engine is off. I pulled the relay from the engine compartment fuse box to keep it from running the battery down (which it did last night). Currently, I'm recharging the battery. Is this a bad relay or a temperature related coolant switch? Oh, is it also possible that the interior dimming switch for the instrument cluster is can cause the lights to be dim on the cluster? I can't find any source of info (schematic or otherwise) which tells me what the resistance should be if I turn the switch trying to determine the proper range.
Answer There are a few causes I see for this problem.
It could be a bad thermoswitch (there are two of them)
Or a bad fan timer unit. First disconnect both of the thermoswitches one at a time and see if the fans stop. One is on the housing where the lower radiator hose meets the engine.
The other is on the housing where the upper rad. Hoose connects to the engine.
If they have no effect then the timer is bad. Here is the timer location
