Car: Pontiac, GrandAM, 2000 - Back to Fix-It
Q.First you notice that you are not getting any gas. Then the car will cut off completely. If you wait a while the car will crank back up fine. Diagnostic test could not find anything wrong even after they ran the car in the air for an hour.
Answer The two things to have tested on the car that could cause this would be the ignition module and the fuel pump. You can have a fuel pressure test done on it and have the pressure regulator checked for pressure drop and leakage at the same time. These units are really picky about fuel pump pressure. The ignition module will act up so, sometimes when it is hot and then when it cools off again start working fine. Some parts stores have a way to test these off of the car under load to see if they are breaking down. If you can determine when the car won't run, if it is not getting fuel or not getting spark it will be a lot easie.. >> login for more
