Engine makes a knocking sound when i start it
Car: Acura, Integra, 1998, B18C11.8L - Back to Fix-It - Acura Integra Repair Manuals
Q.My 98 Integra gsr makes a knocking sound when i start my engine and it sometimes idle when i make a complete stop but my car runs ok.
My check engine light use to come on and i did check what the code was and it was misfire cylinder 3 but it turned off for about 2 months now and never came back on. My engine still makes the knocking sound. I did do a compression test and it seems normal. I ask other and some say its rod related but some say its bent valve so i don't know what to do. People say bent valve is when white smoke pops out and car runs not normal.
I already checked/done: A compression test
Answer A bent valve would be a cause of an engine misfiring.. and if it were something like that.. the engine light would be on, and flashing.. and never would have went away.
This seems more like a bearing in the engine.. but on some engines this is normal, just beacuse it takes a couple seconds of the engine running for the oil to pass through the galleries and get down to the crankshaft.
You say it does it sometimes when the engine is idling, though.. That could be evidence of too low idle speed or one of the 'check valves' in the lubrication system on your engine not closing properly.
