Q.My 97 Integra LS timing belt broke at about 50 MPH. How much engine damage shoud I expect to find. Valve head, pistons, bearings.

I already checked/done: Initially the engine started to run poorly. I changed the plugs and air filter. No change. I then added fuel injector cleaner and filled the gas tank. No improvement. I decided to drive it to garage at home to do further checks and see if the fuel injuector cleaner may help. The engine ran ok at low RPM's but when RPM's got to 3200, it would lose significant power. Then during the trip home the engine quit at 50 MPH and would no longer start. When it quit, I believe I heard what was probably the valves and pistons colliding as the car came to a stop.

AnswerThis is an interference engine, so if the belt breaks (especially at 50mph) and you heard noise, more than likely it has damaged some valves and possible a piston.
The heads will need to be removed in order to inspect the valves....
