Aligning cam shaft

Q.I recently replaced the water pump on a 92 aura legend 5sp and during the process I had the passenger side cam turn on me. Since then i have aligned the marks (while pistons 1 and 5 were up) to put the car in time several times but still the car wont start. Charged the battery and replaced the spark plugs. When I reset the timing, the car attempts to fire one time only but after that it just tries to turn over, and over again this the sound of no chance possible. I'm pretty sure everything on the harness is connected and grounded as i try to start the engine. Why will this car not start?
More Info required can you tell me how far the cam gear turned ?
