abnormal squуeking sound coming from my rear drivers side wheel.

Car: Audi, A4, 2004     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Audi Repair Manuals

Q.I have a 2004 Audi A4 quattro 1.8L, i have been hearing a abnormal squeeking sound (like a mouse) coming from my rear drivers side wheel.
Earlier this winter i had a bit of an accident where i ran into a curb, i bent my front control arm and repaired that and aligned the vehicle.
I took my vehicle into firestone to have the oil changed and they stated i had a bad wheel bearing on the rear drivers side. I have a few friends that work on vehicles and have offered to help me fix it. I was wondering if on my audi since it is all wheel drive i need a special hub assembly, or if the one for the front will also work for the rear. I also need to know how i can install this, and how will i know if the wheel bearing is infact bad by looking at it.

I already checked/done: I've taken the wheel off and i can't find how to properly remove the roter and caliper.

Answer Usually the bearing will make a "humming" sound with a pitch increasing with road speed. Also, typically, the bearing will be louder as you turn the wheel at speed. Turn left and the noise increases, it's the right bearing and vice-versa.
The bearings are different from front to rear, and you likely won't be able to tell if it's bad by visuali inspection.
You will need to remove a LOT more than the rotor and caliper. If you don't have the specific bearing removal/installation tool, then you're going to need to remove the whole spindle, and have the old bearing pressed out and new one pressed back in at a machine shop.
