Q.I have 2005 Toyota Corolla-LE almost 90Kmi and hear metal sound when start cold. After warmed up it disappears.
Could it be valve or timing chain? What is more likely for this mileage and what need to do when source of sound will be clear?
Secondary, Id like to know what average life mileage of rear brake shoe with normal driving style and regular manual brake adjusting? Repair manual only mentioned minimum shoe thickness 3/32.

Answer if you have regularly changed the oil and filter than this would be a little early for a timing chain to start making noise..
its possible a metal heat shieldd maybe rattling, or a more likely cause of a drive belt tensioner or a water pump..the noise needs to happen long enough for a mechanic to determine the probelm.. the water pump can be checked to see if its leaking and the same with the tensioner so you can at least eliminate these 2 items..
as far as the brakes go, with a good combination of highway and city driving i have seen these brakes in the rear go over 100k miles. Normally when you cant see any of the writin.. >> login for more
