Q.how do i know if the water pump / timing belt was changed on my 98 honda accord lx?

Answer There are a few external signs you may see if it was replaced, but the best way is to remove the valve cover and the upper timing cover to see the condition of the belt.
Even that isnt a great way unless if was done very recently and you can still see the fresh printing on it.
The edge of the water pump can be seen from under the car, there will be an obvious diference in the color of the aluminum of the block and the pump.
You also may see the rubber washer missing from the adjuster bolt sticking out of the timing cover. The best way it to find the service records.
