Idle Speed Inspection - L12A4 and L13A6
L12A4, L13A6 engines
NOTE:
- Leave the idle air control (IAC) valve connected.
- Before checking the idle speed, check these items:
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has not been reported on.
- Ignition timing
- Spark plugs
- Air cleaner
- PCV system
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has not been reported on.
1.Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve 2P connector.
2.Connect a tachometer (A) to the test tachometer connector (B), or the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (C) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

3.Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
4.Check the idle speed without load conditions: headlights, blower fan, rear defogger, radiator fan, and air conditioner are not operating.
5.Idle the engine for 1 minute with heater fan switch on HI and air conditioner on, then check the idle speed.
NOTE: If the idle speed is not within specification, see the symptom troubleshooting.
6.Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector.
NOTE: You can use the HDS to inspect idle speed.
