DTC Troubleshooting: P0134 (61)

DTC P0134: Primary HO2S (Sensor 1) Circuit No Activity Detected


NOTE: If DTC P0135 is stored at the same time as DTC P0134, troubleshoot DTC P0135 first, then recheck for DTC P0134.
1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

3.Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) with no load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

4.Check the O2S in the DATA LIST with the HDS at the engine speed 3,000 rpm (min-1).

Does the voltage stay at about 0.45 V?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time.Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) and the ECM.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Disconnect the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) 4P connector.

7.Connect the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.

8.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

9.Check the O2S in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is there about 0.45 V?


YES - Go to 10.


NO - Go to 14.


10.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 10 seconds.

11.Connect the ECM test harness and the test pin box between the ECM and connector.

12.Connect the test pin box terminals No. 61 and No. 76 with a jumper wire.

13.Check the O2S in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is there about 0.45 V?


YES - Go to 22.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 47 (test pin box terminal No. 76) and the primary HO2S (Sensor 1), then go to 16.


14.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

Replace the primary HO2S (Sensor 1).

16.Reconnect all connectors.

17.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

18.Do the ECM RESET in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

19.Do the ETCS learn procedure.

20.Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) with no load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

21.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0134 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n


22.Substitute a known-good ECM.

23. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) with no load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

24.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0134 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Replace the original ECM.n

NO -
